28 August 2010
On the way home from picking up our stallion, DayDream Major Sioux, one of the tires on the back of the truck went BOOM and we knew straight away that one of the tires had blowen. We had to call a tire man out from Dargarville to help get it off and put the spare on. Such a job when it is the inner tyre of a set of two. We also had a truck load of horses, 3 appaloosas and one palamino.  The tire guy arrived and got out his compressor with the rattle gun. WELL what a din it made and yet all those horses just took it all in there stride and no one got stressed by the loud noise or the vibration of it all. I was really impressed with them all.

15 August 2010
We visited the owner of DayDream Diamond Shaz. She is soo happy with him and he is developing really well. Shaz is coming upto 12mths old and is so well looked after. I have put some photos of him in the photo gallery, it is a shame that it was in the winter when he was not the cleanist, but you can still see that he is growing well.
Only a few weeks until spring is officially here and then it won't be too long and the mares will start foaling. We have only got 3 this season, which I am pleased about as this will make the load a lot lighter with looking after them.

28 May 2010
The rain has finally come and we got bucket loads. The dams are all full. Was astonishing to see the dam in the gully that they have all been drinking out of and disappearing in the big hole to get to the water. Well now it is overflowing. The troughs are now all working again and so we can split them into smaller groups again.  This has been the longest and driest drought that we have had for quite a few years. We have just got in another load of baleage from the Waikato to keep feeding them until the grass grows.
Branded the last of the foals this morning and enjoyed chatting with the vet and catching up on what has been happening in the area.
The weather forecast was for rain this morning, but low and behold it turned out to be lovely and fine until after lunch and then we just got a shower or two. Just the sort of weather needed for branding.

2 May 2010.
With daylight saving finishing, the evenings have closed in real quick. Which means that when I get home from work it is nearly dark and so I can't go out and work on the young stock. The temperature's are dropping at night time and we have had a little bit of rain over the last week or so. The grass is growing now and so are the mushrooms, great for Dave as he loves eating them. I am hoping that we will get some good growth before the winter really sets in or we will be in a tight pickle for grass over the winter.
We are spending as much time as we can with the weanlings in handling them and getting them to load on the truck.

28 March 2010.
It is with regret that we made the decision not to take the horses to the Nationals in the end due to unforseen circumstances. However we still did go down for the AGM meeting on Friday and had the chance to catch up with the people that we knew, even some friends from the South Island, and then came home on the Saturday.
We had just run out of water in the dam that feeds all the troughs by the house and so we have had to make a big shuffle of the horses so that they all have access to the one last remaining dam that still has water on this side of the gully. Not sure what we will do if we don't get some rain soon. The paddocks still look slightly green but there really isn't much there. Thank goodness for baleage, though we have had to source some more from down the line.

4 March 2010
More rain has arrived and this time we had 55mls. This will get the grass going again. As we are now into the autumn, hopefully we won't have too many hot and sweaty days.
We are gearing up for the Nationals. Just going down to do the halter though and talk with the friends that we have made over the years. Maybe we will see you there.

14 February 2010
We have just got a green covering on some of our paddocks after the 100mls of rain that we had 2 weeks ago. Most of the North is in a drought situation even with the rain that we had. We desperately need some more rain, otherwise what we have got will just shrivel up in this heat. The foals are all going well and we are starting to handle them. We have only got 2 more shows to go for this season.
The last show being the ApHANZ  Nationals at Kihikihi at the end of March. If you are down there, please come and say hello to us.

19 January 2010.
Last weekend, we went to the Warkworth Show with Missy and Delta. We came home with 4 ribbons. I was really pleased with how Delta handled the sand arena. It is the first time that she has been on this and there was no hesitation to go on it, just hesitation to trot in it, but after a bit of persuasion she was away. The Appaloosas were first up and so we had time to look at the other horses and to watch the trail classes before we headed off home again.

12 January 2010
We had such a good time in Hamilton. It was great catching up with Rae and Peter and then onto the show on Sunday morning. Missy and Delta got 6 placings between the pair of them. I was really rapt. Missy got 1st and Delta got 2nd in the Most Colourful event out of 7 horses. As I thought, the weather was mainly hot and sunny and by the time we had finished showing, I was so pleased to go back to the truck and change into something cooler. However, I forgot to take any photos. Will have to see if anyone else took any.

2 January 2010
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone. I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year. For us, however, it is not starting out too good already. The rain that we were having 2 weeks ago did not do enough to alleviate the drought that we are having. Our paddocks are brown and we are starting to feed out baleage.
This coming weekend we are off to Hamilton for the show I talked about below. With the heat that we are having it could be a very long hot day. I am really looking forward to visiting with Rae and Peter Mutch, who are kindly putting us up for the night.

13 December 2009
I am keeping my fingers and toes and everything else, crossed that the rain that we are having at present is going to break the mini drought that we are having. This last week has been so hot, this is the sort of weather that we usually get in February.
We have decided to go to the North Island All Breeds In Hand Show at Hamilton on the 10 January 2010.  We will be taking Missy(Safe An Sound) and DayDream Double Delta. It will be Delta's first time out at a show but she will have Missy, who is an old hand at all this, to look upto. From there we might go on and do some shows up north here. it will all be a good experience for Delta.

6 December 2009
Our last mare has foaled now for the season. Kotukus Shandiin has had a chestnut colt with a blanket with a few spots and they are both well. We have just had the driest November for such a long time, I hope that this is not the beginning of a long dry summer. I have finally starting riding again and went for a 2 hour ride around the land where Dave has got some of his cattle. Dave and Thomas have been getting a few of our younger horses going and we now have 4 good riding horses. Today I rode Missy and she was just a dream, I thoroughly enjoyed my ride and had such a cruisey time.

15 November 2009.
Wow what a week we have had, 2 mares foaled and had 2 leopard foals. P&R Colidas Bright Star, a solid bay mare,  had a lovely bay colt with such loud colour. I was really stunned to see this colour as I was a bit doubtfull that DayDream KB Casper, the sire of this leopard, could throw good colour. Casper has put more colour on this foal than the stallion that we put her to the previous year. Casper, this season, has helped to throw 2 leopards and 1 fewspot.

9 November 2009
Six mares have foaled now and we are nearly finished, just waiting on another couple to come and they will all be foaled by the end of this month. Dave is over in Australia for his son's wedding and things have been a bit quiet without him. I am lucky to have my daughters around whom ring all the time and come out and stay. We have had a dry spell and have found the metal road to be quite annoying, as we have lots of loggers going through and gosh do they stir the dust up.
